Plug-in EV charging outlets provide a simple and effective way to charge your electric vehicle at home or on the go using a plug-in EV charger or a portable EV charger.
Level 1 Electric Car Charging Outlets
Level 1 chargers are designed to work with standard 120-volt car charger outlets, typically the NEMA 5-15 or NEMA 6-20 outlets are the most common Level 1 EV charger outlets depending on your plug-in EV charger plug type.
This makes them very versatile and easy to install, as they don’t require additional electrical services. Simply plug the charger into the outlet, and you’re ready to charge. However, Level 1 chargers are less powerful and charge your car more slowly. An electric car can travel about four miles for every hour plugged into a Level 1 charger.
Level 2 Electric Car Charging Outlets
Level 2 chargers require a 240v car charger outlet, providing more power for faster charging. These outlets include NEMA 14-30, NEMA 14-50, NEMA 10-30, NEMA 10-50, and NEMA 6-50 depending on your Level 2 EV charger plug type. With a Level 2 car charger electrical outlet, an electric vehicle can travel 20 to 30 miles for every hour of charging, depending on the outlet’s amp rating.
Higher-amp outlets charge more quickly, while lower-amp outlets provide slower charging. Car charger electrical outlets at this level are ideal for those who need to charge their vehicle more quickly or have higher daily driving demands.
