Grizzl-E EV Chargers: Overview & Buying Guide

The Grizzl-E Ultimate 80A EV Charger is one of the best budget-friendly 80-amp EV chargers on the market today. It delivers 80 amps (19.2 kW) of Level 2 charging power. We recommend it for residential, workplace, and commercial installations where fast turnaround is essential. This hardwired 240V charger requires a high-capacity electrical system to support continuous 80-amp loads, as shown in the circuit diagram below.

A detailed wiring diagram titled "Grizzl-E Ultimate 80A EV Charger Circuit Wiring Diagram for 80A (100A Breaker) Installation." The diagram illustrates the electrical path from a 240V main electrical panel to a Grizzl-E EV charger. The flow is as follows: Power from the utility (L1, L2, Neutral) enters the main panel, which contains a main breaker, neutral busbar, and a ground busbar connected to an earth ground rod. A 100A dedicated double-pole breaker is installed in the panel specifically for the EV charger. A red wire (L2), a black wire (L1), and a green ground wire (G) run from the panel through a 1-inch conduit. The diagram specifies a conductor size of 3-8 AWG copper for the hot wires and 3-6 AWG copper for the ground. The wires connect to a junction box, and from there, to the Grizzl-E Ultimate 80A EV Charger. The diagram includes several important callouts and warnings: "Active lugs are continuously live, regardless of whether the main breaker is ON or OFF." "80A charger needs a 100A breaker per NEC 80% rule." A note on voltage drop advises to "Upsize wires on long runs to keep voltage drop under 3% per NEC." A warning to "Keep branch circuit wiring outside gutter posts and avoid crossing wires over breakers."

The Grizzl-E Ultimate 48A is a hardwired Level 2 EV charger delivering up to 11.5 kW. Its rugged UL Type 4 aluminum enclosure makes it one of the most durable outdoor 48-amp EV chargers available. We recommend it for residential or light commercial installations with a dedicated 60-amp circuit, as shown in the wiring diagram below, to maximize charging performance.

Wiring diagram for Grizzl-E Ultimate 48A charger, showing correct wire sizes (4-6 AWG for L1 and L2, 4-8 AWG for ground), 60A circuit breaker, DIP switch settings (switch 1 off, switches 2-4 on), and recommended conduit size (1 to 1 1/4 inches) for wire protection.

We recommend the Grizzl-E Smart for homeowners seeking smart EV charging, the Grizzl-E Classic for simple, no-frills charging, and the Grizzl-E Duo for homes with multiple EVs. All three portable Grizzl-E chargers deliver 40 amps (9.6 kW) of Level 2 charging when installed on a NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50 outlet with a dedicated 50-amp circuit, as shown in the wiring diagrams below.

NEMA 14-50R outlet installation for a Grizzl-E Smart EV Charger with 50-amp double pole breaker, 1-¼” conduit, and 6 AWG copper wire rated for 90°C. Single-phase 120V/240V distribution per US NEC standards, featuring L1 and L2 hot wires, neutral, and ground connections. Grounding includes a ground rod, electrical bonding, and connections to the main panel’s neutral and ground busbars.
