Our Take on the Pergear P2
We can’t recommend the Pergear P2 despite its attractive price and features. Here’s why: this charger has no UL, CSA, ETL, or Energy Star certification, only the wire itself is certified, not the actual control box where the electronics and safety systems live. That’s a major red flag when you’re dealing with 240 volts and 40 amps.
Our testing revealed it failed basic waterproofing despite claiming IP67 protection, and the cable becomes stiff and unreliable in freezing temperatures. If you’re planning outdoor installation or live anywhere with cold winters, this charger simply won’t hold up.
While it does have FCC certification and some nice features like WiFi monitoring and a color touchscreen, the lack of proper safety testing from recognized labs is a dealbreaker. Your home’s electrical safety isn’t worth the savings. Spending a bit more on a properly certified charger from brands like Grizzl-E or ChargePoint, the peace of mind is worth it.
