ApexCharger PRO 1 J1772 to Tesla Adapter Review
The ApexCharger PRO 1 is a compact, high-power J1772 to Tesla adapter for AC charging, enabling Tesla owners to access J1772 EV chargers with secure, weather-resistant performance.
The ApexCharger PRO 1 J1772 to Tesla Adapter is a high-performance charging accessory that bridges the compatibility gap between SAE J1772 AC chargers and Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) vehicles. This adapter enables Tesla drivers to connect to thousands of J1772-compatible EV chargers, including popular public networks like ChargePoint, Blink, and EVgo.
As a bonus, the PRO 1 is included free with all ApexCharger MACH series chargers highlighted below, offering outstanding value for both SAE J1772 and Tesla drivers seeking versatile, cross-platform EV charging.
Built for Compatibility and Versatility
The ApexCharger PRO 1 J1772 to Tesla Adapter is designed specifically to convert AC Level 1 and Level 2 J1772 chargers to NACS, supporting up to 80 amps, 14 kW, and 250 volts – ideal for both home and public charging applications. Whether you’re using a portable unit like the MACH 3 or a hardwired MACH 1 or MACH 2, the PRO 1 unlocks seamless Tesla charging without the need for a proprietary wall connector.
Compatible with all modern Tesla models – Model 3, Model S, Model Y, Model X, Roadster, and even the Cybertruck – the PRO 1 ensures reliable charging on the go or at home.
Note: This adapter is not compatible with DC fast chargers (Superchargers, CCS1/CCS2, or CHAdeMO) and should only be used with AC charging equipment.
Premium Design & Durability
Engineered for rugged, real-world use, the ApexCharger PRO 1 is IP65-rated for water and dust resistance. Rain, snow, or shine – this adapter is built to perform reliably in all weather conditions. Its outer housing is constructed from UL 94 V-0 flame-retardant materials, providing an added layer of safety and resilience, even under demanding conditions.
We put the PRO 1 through rigorous testing with all three ApexCharger EV chargers (ApexCharger MACH 1, MACH 2, and MACH 3 EV chargers), and it delivered a consistent performance with no overheating, signal loss or power interruptions when charging. It locks securely into both the charging handle and Tesla inlet, offering a tight, weatherproof connection that doesn’t wiggle or loosen during use.
Portable & Travel-Ready
The adapter comes with a soft, sport-grade carry bag for easy transport and storage. At under a pound and compact enough to fit in a glove box or frunk, the PRO 1 is an ideal companion for road trips or as part of your emergency charging kit.
The portable-friendly design makes it a great match for the ApexCharger MACH 3 EV Charger, which is popular among electric vehicle owners seeking a backup or mobile charger they can use to charge both NACS Teslas and J1772-equipped EVs anywhere.
Safety & Performance
Safety is at the core of the PRO 1’s design. It supports current loads up to 80A, enabling rapid AC charging when paired with high-output EVSEs. We tested it with multiple J1772 sources delivering up to 48A, and it handled every session with stable power delivery and low heat retention—key indicators of well-engineered internal components.
Moreover, the adapter is CE-certified, giving Tesla drivers peace of mind that it meets international standards for electrical safety and reliability.
Note: If you own only a Tesla and have reliable access to NACS public charging stations, we recommend purchasing a dedicated Tesla charger such as the Tesla Wall Connector or the Tesla Universal Wall Connector.
While the ApexCharger PRO 1 adapter is fully certified and engineered for safety, efficiency, and long-term reliability, using an adapter can present challenges – including added connection complexity, potential wear-on ports, and occasional compatibility quirks with third-party charging stations. For a streamlined, native Tesla charging experience, a direct NACS charger is often the better long-term solution.
During our testing with the ApexCharger MACH 1, MACH 2, and MACH 3 EV chargers, we found that using a J1772 EV charger with the ApexCharger PRO 1 adapter to charge a Tesla does not enable full integration with the Tesla app. For Tesla owners who want seamless Tesla app functionality – such as in-app charge monitoring, scheduling, and remote control – we recommend a native Tesla charger like the Tesla Wall Connector or Tesla Universal Wall Connector.
