The WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger is a home Level 2 EV charger that offers fast, reliable charging with a sleek, weatherproof design. Featuring a 25ft cable, smart app integration, and compatibility with all J1772 EVs, it’s perfect for both home and public use. Choose between plug-in or hardwired models for convenient, future-proof charging at any location.

The WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger is a sleek, smart EV charging, Level 2 charger designed for homeowners who value security, ease of use, and smart EV charging, with the added benefit of EV charging smart management cards (RFID cards), we also recommend it for installation in shared spaces like apartments, condos, and multi-tenant environments.

We picked up all three versions of the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger during the Amazon Spring Sale, based on a recommendation from a trusted EV charger installer—who also happens to be an Electric Vehicle Geek, just like us. We added them to our growing collection of home EV chargers for ongoing testing, eager to see if the hype was real and to put them through our usual lineup of geeky EV charging experiments, including solar EV charging.

The WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger comes fully certified for safety and reliability, giving us confidence in both daily use and long-term performance. It’s CSA-certified, meaning it meets rigorous North American safety standards. It also complies with UL 2594, the industry standard for electric vehicle supply equipment, which ensures protection against common electrical issues like voltage drops, overheating, ground leakage and faults, and overcurrent. On top of that, it’s FCC-certified, so it won’t interfere with nearby wireless devices—a must-have for any smart EV charger with Wi-Fi or RFID functionality.

The WOLFBOX electric car charger is designed for easy installation and everyday home EV charging, the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger is a  SAE J1772 charger that comes with a standard SAE J1772 connector, a 25-foot charging cable, an EV charger holster, and basic installation hardware, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor setups. While installation is straightforward—especially with the plug-in model—we recommend having a licensed electrician handle the job to ensure safety and full compliance with local electrical codes.

WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger Versions

The WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger is available in three home EV charger versions: one plug-in EV charger model and two hardwired EV charger models.

WOLFBOX 40A Plug-In EV Charger

Choose the WOLFBOX 40A NEMA 14-50 plug-in EV charger for simple, plug-and-play installation. The plug-in version works great as a portable EV charger for home and travel. It offers adjustable amperage settings of 16A, 24A, 32A, and 40A, providing flexibility to match your charging needs. With a charging speed of up to 9.6 kW, it ensures fast and efficient charging. You can also use it at private or public charging spots with a NEMA 14-50 outlet, making it one of the most versatile options for EV owners on the go.

WOLFBOX 48A Hardwired EV Charger

The 48A hardwired WOLFBOX Level 2 EV charger is ideal for homeowners who want a dedicated home EV charging setup. It delivers faster charging than the 40A version, with speeds of up to 11.5 kW, and offers adjustable amperage options of 16A, 24A, 32A, 40A, and 48A, giving you the flexibility to choose the optimal charging speed. This makes it a solid balance between speed and compatibility—perfect for daily use and future EV upgrades.

WOLFBOX 50A Hardwired EV Charger

Go for the 50A hardwired WOLFBOX Level 2 EV charger if you want the fastest and most future-proof home charging solution. It offers adjustable amperage options of 16A, 24A, 32A, 40A, 48A, and 50A, delivering up to 12 kW of power and up to 48 miles of range per hour, making it a powerful choice for long-range EVs. Installation requires a 70A+ circuit breaker, so confirm your panel is ready for the high amperage requirements of the 50A hardwired WOLFBOX Level 2 EV charger.

First Impressions

Straight out of the box, the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger feels like a serious piece of gear. The matte black finish looks sharp and premium, and the included accessories, management card (RFID cards), connector holder, and mounting hardware – being certified installers, we can say how excited we were to see installation hardware included in the box.

The moment we got our hands on the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger, it immediately felt like a direct competitor to the Autel Home Level 2 EV Charger (Autel MaxiCharger).

Add to compare
Autel MaxiCharger Home Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger, up to 50 Amp, 240V, Level 2 WiFi and Bluetooth Enabled EVSE, Hardwired, Indoor/Outdoor, 25-Foot Cable with Separate Holster, Dark Gray
Deal
The Autel MaxiCharger Home EV Charger offers up to 50 Amps of 240V Level 2 charging with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity for smart, remote control. Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, it features a 25-foot cable, a separate holster, and a rugged dark gray finish, ensuring durability and efficient charging.

Both Autel MaxiCharger and WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger offer a modern, app-connected experience packed with smart EV charging features — 2.4GHz Wi-Fi control, scheduled charging, real-time energy monitoring, and Alexa/Google Assistant integration. On the security side, both include RFID card access to prevent unauthorized use which previously was a competitive edge held by Autel. For EV chargers who love Autel for its RFID security features, WOLFBOX gives you nearly all the same advanced smart and security features as Autel at a noticeably cheaper price.

We recommend the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger for apartments, condos, and shared spaces, EV chargers with RFID card access are ideal for these environments, as they allow users to securely start and stop charging without needing to log into an app. This is especially convenient when multiple people share the same charger.

Another feature we appreciated right out of the box was the 25-foot charging cable—it’s long, pliable, and eliminates the hassle of having to park your EV in a perfect spot every time. Whether you pull in forward or back in, the generous reach gives you flexibility. The WOLFBOX EV charger is a SAE J1772 charger that comes with a J1772 connector, which is standard and compatible with all J1772-equipped electric vehicles. If you drive a Tesla, you’ll just need a J1772 to NACS adapter for seamless charging.

As a portable EV charger, the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger has a larger body compared to chargers designed specifically for portability, such as the Bokman EV Charger, Skysword II, BougeRV, and Lectron, which feature more compact designs.

WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger Performance

When it comes to performance, the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger holds its own among the top home EV chargers. We tested the 40A, 48A, and 50A versions and found the charging speeds to be fast and reliable.

  • The 50A hardwired model delivered the best results, charging at up to 45 miles (72 km) of range per hour, ideal for larger EV batteries or drivers with longer daily commutes.
  • The 48A version came in close, offering up to 44 miles (70 km) of range per hour, It’s a solid middle ground between performance and ease of installation.
  • The 40A plug-in version provided about 37 miles (60 km) per hour of charge, making it a great option for most EVs and daily use, especially if you’re charging overnight.

Ease of Use

This is where the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger sets itself apart. The 4.3″ color LCD screen easily catches your eyes, it’s bright, easy to read, and useful—it shows your real-time charging status, voltage, time, and total energy used. It’s not just for looks—this charger was built with tech enthusiasts and practical EV owners in mind. One thing about the screen, though, is that we found it hard to read, especially when exposed to direct sunlight, which could be a concern if the EV charger is installed outdoors.WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger screen with glare in direct sunlight, showing reduced visibility when installed outdoors

If you’re installing the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger in a location without shade, we recommend considering an EV charger stand with a top cover, such as the VIVO EV Charger Pedestal, this stand will provide shade and make it easier to read the screen.

Deal
The VIVO Outdoor EV Charging Stand provides sturdy, weather-resistant support for your EV charger outdoor installation. The EV charger stand is built from stainless steel with universal compatibility, and it’s ideal for driveway or sidewalk installations without wall access.

The WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger comes with a 25-foot cable but lacks a built-in cable management system, such as an in-body holster present in the Autel MaxiCharger or a robust EV charger cable management unless you want to loop the cable on the EV charger itself and use its connector holder to hold the connector. For a cleaner setup and better usability, we recommend pairing it with an EV charger pedestal that includes a rock-solid cable management solution —like the VIVO EV charger stand, this not only helps manage the EV charging cable but also helps with compliance with Article 625 of the National Electrical Code (NEC), which requires cable management for EV charging cables longer than 25 feet.

If you have a cable management system in place, the 25-foot charging cable on the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger is a real win. It’s long, pliable, and easy to handle. Unlike some EV chargers with stiff, uncooperative cables we’ve tested, this one doesn’t fight back when coiling or uncoiling—even in cooler weather. The generous length gives you the freedom to park however you prefer—front-in, back-in, or at an angle—without worrying if it’ll reach your EV’s charging port.

The WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger uses a J1772 connector, which works with all J1772-equipped EVs. If you’re a Tesla owner, all you’ll need is a J1772 to NACS adapter, and you’re good to go.

WOLFBOX didn’t just add an app and a screen and call it smart—they work together seamlessly to deliver a genuinely functional and modern charging experience. The sleek modern UI-designed Wi-Fi-enabled WOLFBOX EV charger app, available on both Android and iOS smartphones, gives you real-time control and valuable insights, you can adjust the current, schedule charges, review usage history, and even share access with others in your household.

Voice assistant integration is the real deal here. We tested it—saying “start charging” via Alexa or Google Assistant works. Plus, the RFID card access is a smart addition for households with multiple EV drivers—it lets anyone start or stop charging without needing the app or your phone.

This charger is built for outdoor use, featuring a NEMA 4X enclosure that is IPX6 waterproof, IP6X dustproof, and resistant to extreme temperatures—rated for -22°F cold resistance and 122°F heat resistance. We mounted ours on an exterior wall, and after a few wet days, everything remained perfectly dry inside. The robust build quality gives you the confidence to leave it out in any weather without worry. Whether you’re charging indoors in a garage or outdoors in an exposed driveway, it is built to withstand indoor and outdoor elements.

One thing we appreciated about the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger is its sloped-face design—a small but smart detail that helps it stand up to harsh outdoor conditions. When installed outside, especially in snowy or rainy climates, the angled front panel prevents snow, ice, and water from collecting on the screen and buttons. That means less scraping in winter and fewer issues with moisture getting in the way of operation. Combined with its NEMA 4X weatherproof rating, this charger is ready for year-round use, whether it’s a freezing morning or a stormy night.

When testing the security features of the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger, we appreciated how easy it was to diagnose issues using the built-in indicator lights. The LED status indicator flashes red for a range of problems, including circuit errors, voltage fluctuations, ground faults, overcurrent, current leakage, and overheating, among others. This level of real-time fault detection puts the WOLFBOX among the best EV chargers we’ve tested for diagnostics—and easily one of the most secure for home or shared use.

WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger Installation Guide

Installing the WOLFBOX Level 2 EV Charger was a smooth experience for us as certified EV charger installers. We installed both the plug-in and hardwired versions and found the process clear and manageable. If you’re a DIYer, the plug-in version is relatively easy to install, but for the hardwired models, we recommend consulting a certified EV charger installer or a licensed electrician.

WOLFBOX 40A Plug-In EV Charger Installation Guide

Installing the WOLFBOX 40A plug-in EV charger was easy peasy—this is the version we highly recommend for DIY installers. All you need is a NEMA 14-50 outlet wired with 6 AWG copper wires on a 240V circuit, protected by a dedicated 50-amp breaker. It’s a great choice for anyone looking for a simple, portable EV charging solution without the hassle of hardwiring. We loved how quickly we got it up and running—plugin, and you’re ready to charge.

WOLFBOX 48A Hardwired EV Charger Installation Guide

The WOLFBOX 48A hardwired EV charger took a bit more effort to install, but it was worth it. We used 4 AWG copper wires and a dedicated 60-amp breaker, as required for higher amperage charging. After confirming our electrical panel could handle the load, the installation was smooth. This setup delivers faster charging and feels like a future-proof solution for serious EV owners. If you’re comfortable working with high-voltage wiring—or have a licensed electrician on call—this version is a great long-term investment.

WOLFBOX 50A Hardwired EV Charger Installation Guide

We went with the WOLFBOX 50A hardwired model for maximum charging speed, and it didn’t disappoint. After confirming our electrical panel could handle the load, we installed it using 4 AWG copper wires and a dedicated 70-amp circuit breaker (you can also use an 80A dedicated circuit breaker when installing the WOLFBOX 50A hardwired model). The extra power is noticeable during daily use. This version is perfect for EV owners who want a high-performance, permanent charging setup that’s ready for future EVs with larger battery capacities.
