The Emporia Level 2 Charger equipped with a NACS (North American Charging Standard) connector offers a reliable and efficient charging solution for Tesla and other NACS-compatible vehicles. This charger delivers charging speeds up to 9 times faster than a standard wall outlet, providing up to 46 miles of range per hour with a hardwired connection (48 amps) or 38 miles per hour with the NEMA 14-50 plug (40 amps).

Our Installed Emporia Level 2 EV Charger with NACS (Tesla) connector

Installation is versatile with both plug-in and hardwired options available. The plug-in Emporia EV charger with NACS comes preconfigured for NEMA 14-50P, compliant with 2017 NEC standards, and can be converted to a hardwired installation for up to 48 amps. While professional installation is recommended for optimal safety, the setup process is relatively straightforward.

Emporia prioritizes safety and certification, with UL listing and ENERGY STAR certification, ensuring the charger meets strict standards, including NEC 625 and UL 817. This provides peace of mind for users concerned about quality and safety.

Smart charging is a key feature. With a 2.4 GHz WiFi connection, users can access real-time data and control charging sessions through the mobile app. The app makes it easy to schedule charging during lower utility rates. While some users prefer to rely on data from the vehicle, many appreciate the app’s simple interface. The Emporia NACS Level 2 Charger also integrates with the Emporia energy management system, this allows users to automate energy use, charge during off-peak hours, and prioritize solar power for EV charging.

The Emporia Level 2 EV Charger has a practical, portable design that’s easy to store. Its outer casing is simple and minimalist, available in either white or black, with the “Emporia” logo printed on the front. The front panel features clear LED indicators that show power status, fault warnings, charging activity, and Wi-Fi connection status. This design makes it easy to monitor the charger’s performance and ensure it’s working properly.

The charger feels solid with a NEMA 4 rating, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The 24-foot cable is durable and flexible, handling daily use well, though it stiffens in cold weather. The wall-mounted holster provides convenient cable management. However, its mounting position can be a challenge, particularly outdoors, as the connector faces upwards, potentially allowing debris or environmental elements to settle in the metal pins. A standout feature is the charger’s compatibility with the Tesla charge port door, which opens easily via the button on the connector.

While the charger is priced lower than Tesla’s EV chargers, it offers great value without sacrificing performance, making it a worthy choice for those seeking a dependable EV charger.

Emporia Level 2 Charger with NACS (Tesla) Installation

The Emporia Level 2 Charger is compatible with Tesla’s NACS standard and offers two installation options:

  • Hardwired Connection: Supports up to 48 amps, delivering charging speeds up to 9 times faster than a standard wall outlet.
  • NEMA 14-50 Plug: Supports up to 40 amps, providing up to 38 miles of range per hour of charging.

Emporia Level 2 Charger with NACS Wire Compatibility

The Emporia Level 2 Charger wire terminals support up to 6 AWG copper wires for safe and compliant installation. The wire must meet the following requirements:

  • Rated for 90°C or higher
  • Copper Wires (aluminum wire is not supported)
  • Rated for 125% of the maximum charge rate (as per Article 310 of the NEC)

For the plug-in Emporia Level 2 EV Charger with NACS, you can use smaller wire sizes for the NEMA 14-50 outlets if you plan to use a fixed amperage and do not intend to adjust it in the future, as outlined in our NEMA 14-50 Installation Guide. However, if you plan to hardwire the charger or adjust its amperage, we recommend using 6 AWG copper wire. Due to an improper circuit breaker, we encountered issues passing inspections when using smaller wires with the NEMA 14-50 outlet. If you use the correct circuit breaker and appropriately sized wires, your NEMA 14-50 installation should pass. Refer to our NEMA 14-50 installation guide below for more details.

For a hardwired Emporia Level 2 Charger with NACS installation, the charger’s wire terminals support up to 6 AWG wires. Using larger wires, like 4 AWG, may cause improper fitting and safety risks. Smaller wires may not handle the required current and could pose hazards. The choice of wire gauge depends on the expected charge rate, which is adjusted by setting the charger’s amperage. Additionally, ensure the correct circuit breaker is used to protect the circuit and meet regulatory standards for inspection. For guidance on selecting the right wire size, circuit breaker, and charge rate, refer to our Emporia Level 2 EV Charger with NACS hardwired installation guide.

Emporia Level 2 Charger with NACS Adjustable Amperage and Circuit Breaker Requirements

The Emporia Level 2 EV Charger offers five amperage settings to match your electrical circuit and charging needs. For the circuit breaker, the rule is to use 80% of the circuit’s amperage for continuous load.

  • 16 Amps – Requires a 20A circuit breaker (NEMA 14-50 & Hardwired)
  • 24 Amps – Requires a 30A circuit breaker (NEMA 14-50 & Hardwired)
  • 32 Amps – Requires a 40A circuit breaker (NEMA 14-50 & Hardwired)
  • 40 Amps – Requires a 50A circuit breaker (NEMA 14-50 & Hardwired)
  • 48 Amps – Requires a 60A circuit breaker (Hardwired)
